Description

DeathDancers are still not open for public creation! PLEASE wait for the adoptables set, or ask Twilit for permission. Do not be offended if the answer is no!
More information to know...the fact that I've updated with this should let you know that the adoptables are coming nigh and fast...prepare yourselves
More To Know
Disciplines:
DeathDancers excel very well at all levels of Dressage (since it's basically what they do at all of their festivals)
They can also do well in Driving (carraige pulling, in teams or singles), Vaulting, Jousting, Western, Under Saddle, and Circus performances.
NEVER will a DeathDancer be seen Jumping, Hunting, Hacking, or Cross-Country due to the fact that they are too stocky and heavily built to carry over fences, and any endurance type sport will wear them out far too easily.
Food:
DeathDancers are omnivorous, but do eat (primarily) vegetation. They survive on a well rounded diet of berries, leaves, grasses, and nuts, and have adapted well to hunt small prey, such as rabbits, mice, chickens, and the occasional deer. They have even been known to take the time to search for insects to eat, primarily grubs, cockroaches, beetles, and worms. Pregnant females have been observed supplementing their diets with tree bark, various mosses, and larger game. The females mate will gladly take upon himself the task of hunting for her during this time, and males have been known to take down game twice their size when prompted by a hungry mate.
Hunting:
DeathDancers cannot withstand long distance runs, and so have adapted to sneak up on prey, waiting until the last minute to strike. If forced to chase, they can reach speeds upwards of 50 miles per hour, and maintain speed for no longer than 15 minutes before burning out.
In order to kill, they will often use their forhooves to bludgeon small prey before suffocating them to death with their powerful jaws (which are as powerful as a full grown lions, 600+ PSI)
Both males and females participate in hunting equally, and they will usually hunt one by one, by themselves, unless a tribal hunt is called, in which case every able tribe member will join in.
A tribe can take down very large prey when working together. A bull elephant would be no match for the working group.
Language:
DeathDancers are intelligent creatures, and have a wide range of Linguistics. From simple sounds, to full phonetics, they have a language all their own, which at it's most complex, is un-translatable into any human language.
Simple Vocalizations include: Whinnies, neighs, screeches, growls, hisses, dinosaur like bellows, and throat rattles.
Intermediate Vocalizations include: Discernable/translatable words, names, laughter, sighs, and full sentences.
DeathDancers language is much like our modern Native American/Spanish. Each word has a singular and well-defined meaning, and thus they have a way of communicating without any confusion. If they had a printed dictionary of their language, it would likely not be able to fit inside the Lincoln Memorial building.
Oddly enough, though, they find human languages difficult to fit their tongues around. They can properly speak only about 15 english words, but are more capable in german, indian, native american, spanish, and russian, being able to speak 100 or so words when taught.
Life-Cycle:
Females have an average gestation period of 3-4 months, and can breed again only 4 weeks after giving birth. For some reason, female babies (known as mina's) have a shorter gestation period than male's (known as nahit's), and so females can be born 4 to 6 weeks earlier than a male concieved at the same time.
Females are also more common, taking up 70% of the DeathDancer population.
Offspring will nurse off their mothers for only 3 weeks, after which they will start to eat a diet of pure vegetables until they are one year old. Offspring will start to hunt for themselves when they are 5 years old.
Nahit's are given names when they turn 6, while Mina's have to wait to be named when they are 10. The naming process is a very secretive ritual, which every tribe member takes part in. A DeathDancers name means everything to them, and will reflect every part of their personality. Even the most embarrassing names are cherished by their owners. Names are also extremely long, taking upwards of 9 syllables, often being difficult for humans to pronounce.
As a DeathDancer ages and progresses upwards in the Tribal ladder, his name will be made longer to suit his position. The highest tribal leader will often have a name of 100 or more syllables.
In familial and friendly situations, DeathDancers call eachother by short parts of eachothers names, often 1 to 4 syllables of the whole. However, to show respect to the elders, leaders, and priests, a DeathDancer must use at least the first 10 syllables of the particular elders name, including his proper title. Showing disrespect by not doing so is looked down upon sorely.
There are many levels which a DeathDancer can progress through in the tribal setting, depending on what his abilities are.
Healers: Apprentice, Healer, Mystic Healer, Tribal Healer
Warriors: Apprentice, Warrior, Armadan, Armadan Commander
Shamans: Apprentice, Shamani, Shaman, Mystic Shaman, High Shaman, Tribal Shaman
Leaders: Armadan Commander, Commander Chief, High Chief, Supreme Chief, Tribal Leader
Elders: Tribal Healer/Tribal Shaman, Elder, Wise Elder, High Elder, Tribal Elder
Any DeathDancer that is unable to excel in any of the above is a commoner, and will often work for those in high positions.
DeathDancers are extremely longevitous, and can live upwards of 1000 human years, giving that they do not have any severe health issues, or that they are killed. Males tend to live longer than females, as well.
Faults:
Though they will be the last to admit it, DeathDancers do have some conformational faults, and they have a few minor genetic health problems.
Comformationally speaking, DeathDancers commonly have large knees, though it is not easily noticed. They also have shortish heads, which can cause breathing and dental problems as they mature.
Health wise, there are a few health issues that are genetically inherited: Premature blindness, Eye stigmatisms, Angina, Heart murmurs, Over and Under bites, straight pasterns, knock knees, sway back, dry skin, Underdeveloped upper jaw, soft hoove, and Inernal Giantism (the overgrowth of internal organs). Mentally, DeathDancers are also prone to depression, bipolarism, schiztophrenia, OCD, and ADD. It seems that all of these mental problems are not inherited from birth, but rather obtained over their lifespan, so with proper care they should be avoided.
Temperment:
DeathDancers enjoy being able to roam freely, and cannot stand being cooped up. They are easily bored, and need constant varied stimulation.
As long as they are allowed to run around at least semi-freely, and they are given something to do on a regular basis, including the act of hunting and foraging for themselves, they are incredibly soft tempered creatures.
Males are more prone to anger, however, especially towards other males that they percieve as a threat to their 'harem'.
They can also be stubborn if you ask them to do something they find boring, or uninteresting. Take care to train them in something that fully interests them, lest you create a depressed, frustrated, and possibly violent creature.
Understanding that they have a large brain, you can see that they can learn just about anything quickly, but their intelligence prevents them from just doing whatever is asked of them. They will question virtually everything, so be prepared to explain politely.
Do not be shocked either if your DeathDancer expresses interest in learning about your culture and customs. They are great philanthropists, and are curious to learn from any other intelligent being that is willing to teach.

Once the adoptables are adopted out, I'll post a journal DeathDancer Registry. Any cross or purebred who is NOT listed in that upcoming journal will not be considered a DeathDancer, only a copy, even if it has proven bloodlines.
When the time comes, people, note/comment on that journal and REGISTER all of your DeathDancers, even if they are only 1/16th DeathDancer or what have you. If I find the time, I'll also be making tags for DeathDancer owners to place in their stable journals, they will have the DeathDancers name, sire/dam names, percentage of deathdancer blood, and the date that they were registered. That way it'll be a bit easier to see what HArpg horses are really DeathDancer's. :phew:

Your death dancers really just look like skeleton equines
